2024 Sustainability Report
Eurostar continues its mission to make high-speed rail the backbone of responsible travel in Europe. With nearly 19.5 million passengers transported in 2024, we set a new record while accelerating efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, promote circularity, and enhance intermodal connections. See below the three pillars of our Sparking Sustainability programme:

Reducing our carbon footprint
-
5.8 g of CO₂/passenger/km on average — up to 97% fewer emissions than an equivalent flight*
-
Eurostar became the first rail company to join the RE100 alliance, committing to purchasing 100% renewable energy to power its trains by 2030
-
Designing our own products and services to leverage new technologies, identify best practices, and maximise energy performance now and in the future
-
We signed the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment letter in March 2024, initiating a two-year process to develop science-based targets to reduce emissions across all our operations

Fostering a circular economy
-
Calculation of the circularity index to measure the impact of our purchasing and end-of-life management, in order to identify areas for improvement toward greater circularity
-
Unsold bread turned into Pain de Minuit craft beer, served onboard
-
100% of food waste from Eurostar Premier and Eurostar Plus is converted into compost or fertilizer through partnerships, including Les Alchimistes in France
- Short-dated packaged products are redistributed to charities in France and the United Kingdom (via Olio)
Enhancing connectivity
- Creation of intermodal hubs in Paris, London, and Brussels
- Partnerships with KLM/Air France, TGV InOui, TGV Lyria, NS, SNCB, DB, and more
- Participation in HOTNAT and AJC programmes to improve connections
- Growing integration of combined tickets on eurostar.com to promote 100% rail journeys
