EES launching on 12th October
The EU has confirmed that the new Entry/Exit System (EES) will launch on 12th October 2025 over a period of 6 months.
At Eurostar, we have worked closely with the authorities and the European Commission over the past few years to fully prepare for this transition. We’re ensuring that all travellers continue to experience a smooth, supported and straightforward border control process. Read on to find out more.
What is EES and how does it apply ?
EES is an EU border initiative for registering non-EU nationals when entering and exiting the Schengen area. The electronic system will register passenger information such as travel document details, biometric data and the date and time of travel. This will replace manual passport stamping.
The system will apply to non-EU nationals who travel to the Schengen area for a short stay, regardless of whether they require a VISA or if they are VISA exempt. A short stay means a stay of up to 90 days within any 180 day period. You can consult the list of exemptions here.
Introduction of EES for Eurostar travellers
Introduction of EES checks will be gradual. Not all travellers will be required to register immediately, and travellers will not need to do anything differently.
We will introduce entry checks for some travellers departing from London St Pancras International from October. Registration will be carried out manually at one of our immigration booths, during the usual passport control process. Passport stamping will continue during the 6 months phased launch.
Loyalty members (Carte Blanche or Etoile) and Eurostar Premier travellers will be invited to use new EES kiosks to preregister their data, before these are opened to all travellers next year.
Full introduction by April 2026
In line with EU requirements, EES will be fully introduced for all eligible Eurostar travellers by 10th April 2026.
From early 2026, we will introduce entry and exit checks on all routes to/from London, and biometric kiosks will be available to all travellers departing from both London and Paris.
Our processes have been designed with customers in mind, to ensure minimal impact to their journey. Customers can be reassured that check-in times will stay the same, and staff and clear signage will be available at all our stations to help guide them.
